Fathers Day

Started the day by heading out after the cows for the morning milking in a drizzle at 4:30 a. m. Headed to the hayfield  around 7:30 to finish cutting the field I had started on Saturday with full intentions of getting it cut and then beginning to bale the field.  It takes quite a while to cover a 35 acre field. I finished cutting the field but because of the rain Robert K. was going to have to ted the field for it to dry enough for baling so I headed the tractor and cutter to Norman A's so we could get a couple of badly worn bolts out and change a skid plate.  I have known Norman since I was a very young man and he is Robert K's father-in-law and a real good friend.  We discovered other problems and had to study just how we were going to be able to repair the machine for it to work properly.  Finally we decided that Norman would fabricate a piece and cut the bolt holes for it. It fit perfect.  It was hot and getting up in the day when Robert finished tedding and we decided that since it was Father's Day we would take the rest of the day off and start fresh on Monday.  I unhooked the cutter at Norman's and drove back to the field with the tractor to hook the baler up for baling to be done the next day.  Just when I arrived at the field I met my son Francis and my wife Glinda.  They had came to check on me and Francis thought he might bale awhile if I was baling, but instead I told them we were taking the rest of the day off. It was already past two in the afternoon and I start evening chores at four so it wasn't going to be long.

When we got home Francis began installing a new digital thermostat that his Mom had requested as ours was one of the old fashioned kind and it was guesswork as to what temperature it was set at.  Photo above is him doing the installing.  I sat down on the couch and fell asleep for a short nap.  Mitzi and several Grandkids showed up and my nap was kinda messed with.  Oh well,  so goes it.  Four o'clock arrived and we headed to milk and Francis went to Mitzi's to visit (and ride their go-kart) while we milked.
Got started milking and had more company arrive. The photos below are of my friend Scott Overholser and his family.  He wanted to show them cows being milked because they had not before had the experience.

After Scott and his family had left I had even more company to the barn.  Sometimes it seems like Grand Central Station.  The photo below is my son Jacob with a plaque that he and his wife, Amanda had made for me for Father's Day.  I have it proudly hanging in my house on the new thermostat.  He and his family did not stick around as they were headed to Amanda parents to see her Dad on Father's Day.  I hope you can read the plaque.

While we milked, Mitzi and her husband Brandan and their kids and Francis rode the Go-Kart and when we were done and headed out the door it seemed that one little one had just had too much fun.  See photos below.

When we got home Francis gave me a Father's Day gift.  A set of two ratchet wrenches that have eight different sizes.  I now have them on the tractor and have put them to use.

All in all I had a very satisfying Father's Day.
