May 29 at Kelley's Dairy
I began cutting hay for the 2009 hay season at 6:45 a. m. on Friday, May 29. I was going great guns when around 10:00 a. m. I felt a drop of water. I looked around and did not see anything so I just kept cutting. A few minutes later I felt a couple more drops. I thought, "Huh". I looked at the temperature gauge on the tractor and all seemed fine. I made another round or so and felt some more water drops and checked the temperature gauge again and saw that it had began to rise. I stopped the tractor and without shutting it off I got off and looked at the front of the motor and could see that the fan belt was spreading the water. I could not tell if it was leaking from one of the hoses or what so I got back on and headed to the house. Glinda came out and looked with me but we still could not tell for sure so we shut the tractor down and then I saw it. It was leaking from the bearing on the front of the water pump. I called around and located one in Marshfield, Mo at Marshfield Machinery. I told them that I was headed that way as soon as I got the old one off. I got going towards Marshfield around 11:15. Made good time and arrived there at noon. Got my part and headed home, stopped by Bradshaw Auto Parts in Norwood to get antifreeze.

The water pump is removed.

New water pump in place.

All assembled and ready to go.
I got started cutting again at 3:00 p. m. and finished the first field a few minutes after 4:00 p.m. Went to the house and found Grandkids with their Mom and Grandmom. Took just a few minutes to visit with them before heading to barn to milk. Below is a photo of "Lil" on the swing. I believe she has just learned to use it.

Following the evening chores I headed to another field to mow some more hay. Not a lot of acres in this field to cut as I have half of it divided into paddocks for the cows to graze. The cows looked so peaceful while they were grazing that I took a few photos from the tractor seat while mowing. I have posted them below.

I also spotted a coyote. I tried to get a good photo but failed. The photo below is the best shot I could get. I mean after all he didn't come up to me or stand still once he spotted me.

Finished mowing and went to the house about 8:00 p.m. I was glad that Glinda had supper ready.
