Brown Swiss Heifer Calves

Saturday when I arrived home from baling hay my wife informed me that she thought we had a heifer trying to give birth.  It is always possible to have trouble with a cow during birth and especially for heifers with their first calf.  So we jumped in the truck and headed over to where she was laying in the corner of the field.  When we got there she jumped up and we decided that she was not quite ready yet so we gathered her and the other heifers that were in the field and drove them closer to the barn and into a smaller field so we could keep a closer eye on her.  One hour later the photo below shows what we found.
The feet are showing but the waterbag has not broken yet.  Everything is still ok but now it is time to take action.  I headed to the barn to get the calfpullers so I would be able to assist.

You can see in this short video that she is in labor but not hurting or excited. I took this just before I started using the calfpullers. I had to physically break the waterbag to get the ob chains on the calf's legs.
.

In the above video you can see she is up and about and starting to take care of the calf and he is gingerly shaking his head.

When "Flossie" and I went back an hour later to check we found him up and ready to eat. I have to report he is doing great at this time.
