Kelleys Dairy Goes a Visiting

Yesterday evening, Glinda and I were invited to Mary and Clarence's house for supper and to perhaps play a few games of pitch.  Marvin has been down from St Louis for a few days visiting his Mom and Dad and we thought we would go and have an enjoyable evening.  Little did we know just how much fun it was going to be.  We even go to meet a new member of their family, "Chuckles".  First I will tell about the card games.

Mary and Glinda were 'they' and Marvin and I were 'us'.  As you follow the score sheets you can easily tell that 'they' won the first game of the evening followed by 'us' winning two and then 'they' won two and then 'us' won another.  It was starting to get late as we decided we had to play just one more for  the break of the tie.  If you will but follow the score on the last game you can tell things were tight and came down to the last hand being the decider for the evening with a tie score of '18'.  Marvin said it was "Heroes or Zeros" time.  Things were tense as Marvin had bid 5.  First Marvin took two then Glinda took one then Marvin took two more.  Play was down to two cards each and only two points left.  Marvin had to secure at least one of those points and only Marvin and Glinda remained in the game as Mary and I had ran out of trumps.  We paused the play to discuss how this was really getting to be "Heroes or Zeros" time (the beer was helping the conversation).  Marvin had the lead and was (we thought) having to study the situation on which card to play but as it turned out he thought it was Glinda's turn.  After we got that straightened out Marvin made a play, Glinda saved a point and then Marvin took the last point to win the game.  A grand time was had by all.  Clarence spent the evening watching the play and was very good about not kibitzing about who had what since he was able to watch more than one players hand.
By now I am sure you are all curious about the new member of the clan I told you about a little earlier.  I asked Mary what she had named it and she said "Named?" when Marvin jumped up and said "What a silly question of course it is a "Chuckles"."  It seems a while back the UPS truck had stopped to deliver a rather huge package to Mary.  Clarence had asked her what she had ordered and she had to reply nothing.  The photo below shows what was in the package.

Mary and Glinda's sister, Debbie had sent "Chuckles" to Mary to join her collection of chicken stuff.  Mary has quite a collection around the house and live ones in the chicken coop.  Mary called Debbie to ask her why she had sent it and Debbie told her that she just saw it and took one look and said to herself  "That's Mary, she's gotta have that".
On a side bar, not to change the subject or anything,  Glinda and I decided to research which way was closer to Dawson last night so we set the trip odometer as we reached the bridge last night going and checked it again after crossing the bridge coming back home and we discovered that it was 18.8 miles there by going to Mtn Grove on 60 and then north on 95 but only 18.6 miles by coming back through the country past the place they were raised on to N highway to E and then south to Norwood.  Just 2 tenths of a mile difference- now that is close.
