Twin Calves Born at Kelley's Brown Swiss Dairy

Imagine my surprise when I went to gather the cows for evening chores and discovered not one but two new calves.  A set of twins, one male and one female. In multiple births of both sexes the female normally does not develop all her necessary parts for breeding. the close one is the bull and the other of course is the heifer.  The dam is looking on from the side wondering what I am going to do with her calves but she knows I am not there to hurt them.

I thought you might enjoy watching the calves follow their mother towards the barn.

The little lady got tired and I had to carry her the rest of the way, but she ate very willingly.  Sometimes it is hard to get them to take their first feeding.  The bull was stubborn and refused to eat tonight.  I figure he had already got up and ate at "Mom's".  And I am still waiting for two more cows to calve that are both a week overdue.

How very sweet. Wish they had both been girls. I seen lots of twins while working for the Vet and almost always on a boy/girl set the girl is unable to breed and it seemed like 90% of twins were boy/girl. It's still neat to see them. Looks like they are doing well.
