Best Friends
Above the hills of Whisper Gap, a plane whooshed to earth in free fall, slowing to crash through a stand of pine trees. It rattled through resistant branches as the boughs cried out in tingles of breaking needles. The Cessna landed with a colossal thud on dry ground in the middle of the forest. The woods looked like an untidy house with branches scattered like old newspapers along with smoldering bits dancing across the ground, set afire by the heat.
