Ever since we became foster parents I've thought more and more about this quote. It has became more of a motto for me. In fact the entire song is so fitting to me. So many people tell us how great of a thing we're doing but to us it really doesn't feel that way. It's just who we are. I'm honored to be able to provide a safe place for these kids. I hope I'm able to make a positive impact on these kids and maybe even to the families as well. I believe in family and I believe that people can change. The story won't always have a happy ending. The kids are who is important. It's hard to see them go but it's also hard to see them come because I know they come with pain. Sometimes their stories are hard to hear but someone in our foster parent class told me something I'll never forget. If they are strong enough to live through it then I'm strong enough to listen. It amazes me how brave these kids are. So many times we see these families live out a viscous circle. If I can do my best to try to stop this cycle then it's worth it. Like in the quote.. I'm not trying to change the world. I just won't let it change me.
