Today I have a very important public service message from your favorite firefighter...ME! I know everyone is anxious to put up your Christmas tree but real trees are a big fire hazard the longer they are put up. The problem is that real trees need to be cut every few days to ensure that the trunk can get enough water to drink. What happens is sap creates a seal on the bottom of the trunk which prevents the tree from getting any water. The trees that you buy at the store have been cut for days or maybe even weeks.
I have included a link to the U.S. Fire Administration website that includes safety tips along with an amazing video of a tree that catches on fire and in less than sixty seconds the living room was completely engulfed in flames.
Please Be careful!
