Shake Rattle & Roll

“Let’s dance!” said Captain Bagabones

then suddenly discordant tones

like decomposing xylophones

rang dreadfully across the stones

and with a clatter rather grim

some carcasses performed for him

discarding their departing scrim

to satisfy his morbid whim.

When Bony G took out his flute

the whole revue had quite a hoot

they knew his airs were destitute

he didn’t have the wind to toot.

A billion billion suns divulge their spark

but still it’s dark

throughout the silent vacuum known as space

there is no trace

of any other world that harbors life

and all the strife

produced by those intent to see how far

apart we are.

From my new vantage I can see

Pink blossoms of an apple tree

Gently swaying to and fro

As buoyant springtime breezes blow,

The waning sun still plenty warm

Enough to prompt a hungry swarm

To harvest pollen for the hive,

I marvel as they swoop and dive.

Astounding as the thought may be

We share this world in harmony

With every other spark of life

That deals with its own form of strife

But still somehow designs a way

To make it through another day.

No Rock's Big Enough

Oh hapless snail

So fat and frail

Beneath a rock on my front lawn

It’s seems unfair

My home repair

Has caused your crag to be withdrawn

Come here small friend

I’ll try to mend

The damage my design has wrought

A brand new stone

To call your own

No finer crevice could be bought

Some unseen force

Without discourse

Uprooted you and changed your life

So much like me

One entity

Unable to duck eventual strife
